My innovation to cue sports.
Through my years of playing, I have had the pleasure of trying and using many fantastic cue sports aids. I would even say that I’ve tried them all. But over the past few years I have been working on my own innovation for cue sports.
I started by asking many questions that I felt could not be answered by any of the products I tried.
Where is my sight line?
How do I get my cue on the same path as my sight line?
I am in the standing position when I am sighting a shot but I lose that line when I move to the cueing position, why?
When I’m using a rest, how do I know if my cue is on the same line as my sight?
When cueing over an obstructing ball or off a rail, how do I know if my cue is on my sight line?
Only five simple questions which I know could possibly be answered but I know, would cost me thousands to find my answers. Plus the cost of a top quality snooker coach at £100 per hour minimum, to help.
I have invented a product that answers all these questions and without the cost of a coach. It allows the player to see their own errors and mistakes. I believe if a player can see where they are going wrong, they can rectify and improve these issues.
My product is a simple item that allows a player to practice their sight/cue line accurately and helps reduce playing across the ball or adding unnecessary side on the cue ball. My product has a unique ability above any coaching aid on the market. It allows the player using it, to see where they are going wrong. This allows the player to make adjustments to improve their game.
My product offers:
A. The player to see their own sight path.
B. The player to accurately move from the standing position to the cueing position without losing the line.
C. Puts their cue and cue line accurately on their sight line.
D. Allows the player to practice cueing through the ball in a straight line without any curving of the cue.
E. Allows the player to practice cueing off a rail, over an obstructing ball and keeping their cue and sight line accurately together.
F. Allows a player to accurately keep their cue line and sight line when using a rest.
So let’s try to explain the importance of my product.
I have monocular vision. This means that my sight projects from one eye only. So you would imagine that it’s quite easy for your sight and cue to follow the same line? Sadly, it’s not that simple. But the process works the same for a person or player with normal vision, so let’s take a look at that.
With normal vision, sight projects from both eyes. Strength of vision is usually different (most people who wear glasses will understand this as both lenses are usually a different prescription). What this means is that your sight path projecting from both your eyes tends to lean more to one side or the other, depending on your sight from each eye. So, cueing down the middle of your chin (central to your eyes), would mean that your cue is following a different path to your sight. To pot balls the player must be building in a form of compensation to each shot they play. The compensation is different playing a shot to the right to a shot to the left.
This has been proved in the testing of my product. So far, the majority of players cue line has been following a different path to their sight line. The strange thing is that players appear to sight differently when using a rest.
This means that from the standing position, each player must become confused in what they see and how they cue. So, the player probably sights the ball correctly but moves into the cueing position slightly to the right or left depending which way they are playing their shot, although this idea is only a guess? But this would explain why players believe straight shots are one of the hardest shots to pot.
Through the testing of my product, I start by placing ten balls on the black spot and allowing a player to pot nice simple shots. I alternate shots played to the right then left. In most cases, anywhere between two out of ten and six out of ten, are potted. I notice that players miss most shots the same way. Meaning that they struggle with the compensation either to the right or left. But if it’s to the right, it remains to the right and vice versa.
After using my product, the potting ability improves dramatically. On two occasions, players who potted two out of ten, improved to pot ten out of ten. Showing that once the sight and cue are aligned, each shot is no longer requiring compensation. This gives the player a more accurate shot.

Given time and regular practice with my product, enables the player to build the new muscle memory required to cue accurately. The beauty of this is, that once the player has an understanding of my product, they can practice this in their own surroundings.
I have spent time developing my invention, which includes producing a 3D printed version. I have also completed a patent application over a year ago, although I have been busily testing my product on players of all standards. My product has improved 99% of all players using it and has been called “A Game Changer”, by an ex professional snooker player.
